In this online, four-session course, we will investigate the places and people in our lives and develop a narrative painting idea. Using digital and analog tools, we will create the inputs for our painting, including sketches and reference photographs. We will study the theoretical and intuitive aspects of composition and then review beginner Photoshop tools that are helpful in building compositions. In week three, we will work in Photoshop to develop a composite image as the foundation for our painting. In the final week, we will translate our digital ideas into a color study using gouache or oils.

Each session is 2 hours long and includes a lecture, a demo, and Q&A. Classes will be recorded. Homework will be assigned each week and students may post their homework in the group forum for feedback. I will be developing a painting idea along with the class.
